WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Sherin Matthews, a 3-year-old girl from Dallas, Texas was reported missing after her father punished her for not drinking her milk.
- The 37-year-old father sent the little girl alone outside their house during the wee hours of the morning.
- Wesley Mathews was arrested by the police for endangering his child after he reported the incident.
Three-year-old Sherin Matthews is missing after her father, Wesley, took her outside of their house on Oct. 7 at around 3 a.m. He then left her alone to stand outside behind their home. The father said he just wanted to teach the little girl a lesson for not drinking her milk.
Mathews called the authorities the same day telling the police that his daughter disappeared. He was arrested and detained for child endangerment. According to the Richardson, Dallas police, Matthews was released on bond.
The father has not released any public statement nor gave out any comment yet.
His arrest affidavit read: “Mathews said he directed his daughter to stand near a large tree at approximately 3 a.m. (on Saturday) because she wouldn’t drink her milk.”
Mathews told the police that he checked on his daughter after 15 minutes but she was already gone, the affidavit said.
A police spokesman said Matthews reported the little girl missing nearly five hours after leaving her outside.
The affidavit also said that Mathews told police that he had seen coyotes in the alley near their backyard where he told his daughter to stand.
Sergeant Kevin Perlich, a spokesman for the Richardson Police Department, said that Sherin had been adopted by the Mathews’ family and was born in India. The 3-year-old was malnourished before arriving in the United States and has been on a special diet since.
Little Sherin has developmental issues and has difficulty communicating verbally.
The Texas police reported that they have found a little girl’s body in a tunnel near Spring Valley, less than a mile from the Mathews’ home on the morning of Oct. 22. The cause of death and identification has not been confirmed yet.
