Jamie Lambert, who won the eighth season of Britain’s Got Talent in 2014 with musical theatre group Collabro, has been mugged on Wednesday by a street gang.
“I’m just recovering from the shock,” the 27-year-old singer told The Sun. “It’s obviously not very nice. I’ve got a broken nose which is healing and I’m shaken but it could have been a lot worse.”
Lambert, who came out as gay in 2014, recalled he was approached by a group of men while out with a friend. He said they asked him to hand over his belongings. The fact that they were on a busy street in “broad daylight”, he replied: “Are you mad?”
“They tried to pull me into an alley and I pulled away and they broke my nose with something like brass knuckles under a glove,” Lambert said. “It was some kind of weapon. I’m not allowed to say too much about it. The police are looking for them.”
“They left empty-handed. I think I got off quite well actually,” he continued.
He thanked his 31,800 followers on Twitter and told them that he was recovering from the brutal attack.
“Hi guys. Thanks for the concern as to where I’ve been. I was assaulted in an attempted robbery on Wednesday,” he wrote on Twitter. “I’m absolutely fine but taking time to relax and recover physically/mentally. The boys and HQ are taking good care of me. Carry on as normal please!”
The UK-based group Collabro is composed of Jamie, Michael Auger, Matthew Pagan and Thomas J Redgrave. Richard Hadfield was a part of the band when they won on BGT but left in June 2016 because of a shocking feud with his group mates over his solo music.
