WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman made an apology once again on Friday after eight women accused him of harassment and inappropriate behavior.
- On Thursday, CNN published a report about the actor’s alleged indecent behavior in the movie set and while promoting his movies.
- CNN said it also talked to “dozens more people” who had worked with the actor-producer and who said Freeman did not in any way misbehaved.
Morgan Freeman has been accused of sexual harassment by eight women, according to a report published by CNN on Thursday. The Oscar-winning actor has since issued an apology to these women, also insisting that he did not assault anyone.
“I am devastated that 80 years of my life is at risk of being undermined, in the blink of an eye, by Thursday’s media reports,” Freeman said.
CNN reported that eight women described “a pattern of inappropriate behavior by Freeman on set while promoting his movies and at his production company Revelations Entertainment.”
CNN wrote that Freeman allegedly subjected two women to “unwanted touching” and others recalled his “public comments about women’s clothing or bodies.”
Add to that, CNN published that Freeman’s behavior was not reported because most of them feared for their jobs.
But the news network claims that it also sought other people who worked with Freeman and who vouched about the actor’s professionalism on the set and in the office.
Morgan Freeman stated: “All victims of assault and harassment deserve to be heard… But it is not right to equate horrific incidents of sexual assault with misplaced compliments or humor.”
“I did not create unsafe work environments. I did not assault women. I did not offer employment or advancement in exchange for sex. Any suggestion that I did so is completely false,” the 80-year-old actor asserted.
In his original statement issued last Thursday, he said: “I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected — that was never my intent.”
Among the women accusing Freeman, CNN has named only two, including Chloe Melas, who claims she was harassed by the actor while interviewing him on a junket. Melas co-authored the CNN article published last Thursday.
