WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- What keeps billionaire Oprah Winfrey busy these days is the Oprah Winfrey Network, a TV channel owned by Harpo Studios and Discovery Communications.
- With her busy schedule, banking transaction is not her priority but she revealed on The Ellen Degeneres Show that she went to the bank recently.
- Both giggling uncontrollably, Winfrey told the talk show host why she made a recent visit to the bank for the first time since 1988.
Media mogul Oprah Winfrey started making her millions through her talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, which she had for 25 years. When the show ended in 2011, Winfrey didn’t retire but instead, broadened her network.
The Harpo Studios founder is now worth around $3 billion.
So, what’s a billionaire doing in the bank, making her own transaction? Winfrey revealed at The Ellen Degeneres Show what made her do it.
Winfrey agreed to be on the hot seat for “Ellen’s Burning Questions” segment for the host’s online series Show Me More on the You Tube channel.
One question Degeneres asked Winfrey was, “What’s your ATM pin number?” Oprah responded, “I don’t have one.”
The Big O then asked the host, “When’s the last time you went to the bank, Ellen?”
DeGeneres replied, “A long, long time ago when I deposited, like, $5,000 and I was so excited.”
Oprah looked excited at the topic and said: “Yeah, I went to the bank recently because I hadn’t been to the bank since 1988.”
Ellen then asked the reason why she went to the bank for.
Very casually, Oprah replied, “To deposit a million dollars.”
“Really, as like a check?” asked Ellen.
“Yeah, I just wanted to go there just to do it,” and added that she stood in line just like a regular person.
Ellen asked her how it felt like going to the bank and Oprah described it to be “fantastic”.
Both started giggling and then Winfrey added, “Actually, it was $2 million.” More giggles.
A few other Q & A’s from the segment: Oprah’s favorite word that begins with an “O” is “Oreo”; her go-to karaoke song is “Respect,” by Aretha Franklin which she and Ellen sang the chorus part. What makes her feel good is rolling in the grass with her dogs and her favorite G-rated curse word is “Shazam”. The advice she would give her 21-year-old self is, “Relax, girl, you’re going to be all right.”
Because you’re going to be a billionaire, girl.
