WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Nine-year-old Maya Lu, from Germany, first used a tattoo gun when she was just two years old.
- Now, she can ink designs without parental supervision.
- She’s become a sought-after tattoo artist at her parents’ tattoo studio.
At only nine years old, Maya Lu from Tengen, South Germany, is already a sought-after tattoo artist.
Having spent most of her childhood in her parents’ tattoo studio, Psyland 25, Maya first used a tattoo gun when she was only two years old.
She started by inking scribbles on the feet of her parent, Lily Lu, a non-binary artist who owns the studio.
Over the years, Maya honed her skills and learned various design techniques “using bigger and different needles,” according to Lily. Now, she can use the tattoo gun and make her own designs without parental supervision.
Lily shared, “Me and some friends have always shown her some little tricks and it was amazing to see her progression with the machine.”
“It’s so crazy to see her sitting there and actually going through the full process by herself and making these big pieces in such a short time. And on top of that, the tattoos look very nice when they are healed.”
Lily continued, “It’s senseless to compare it with the average skills of a professional tattoo artist. But compared to how old she is and how fast and clean she is already tattooing, it is very impressive.”
Maya’s talent earned her own little desk at the studio to work on designs for fun. Soon, more and more of their adult friends wanted a tattoo from her.
While Lily Lu and partner Anuskatzz acknowledge Maya’s skills, they don’t plan on pushing their daughter to pursue a career in tattooing. They simply want her to have fun doing what she does.
Lily shared, “I always tell her to do whatever she feels like and go for her dreams. And I think tattooing isn’t the worst skill to have as a backup.”
Besides, her parents said that Maya only works when she feels like it, making it quite difficult to get an appointment with her.
Lily shared that some of her friends had to wait for years before they could get a tattoo from Maya, even when “bribed with candy and presents.”
Lily added, “I mean she’s a child and she does this for fun. So, you can’t just come and get ink. It’s luck and everything has to fit. But when she likes you, your chances are big.”
Maya shared that she loves working with the big needle, and that her favorite design is the monkey that she made on her friend Angelo, which was featured in the YouTube video above.
