A 95-year-old man heard someone breaking into his home and armed himself with a weapon. He ran off the intruder before contacting the authorities, who caught the suspect and charged him with burglary shortly after.
The Alabama resident was napping in his living room when the sound of breaking glass awoke him.
The 95-year-old armed himself with an unidentified weapon and spotted the burglar rummaging through his kitchen.
According to Sheriff Blake Thurman, the man ordered the intruder to leave and called 911 when the coast was clear.
“Thank God this had a good ending, and the victim should be commended on his courage and quick thinking,” Thurman said.
Police arrested the suspect behind a nearby home on charges of burglary and criminal mischief.
