  • On a video acquired by TMZ, it was seen that Beyoncé and Jay-Z didn’t stand up when Demi Lovato started singing the national anthem on Sunday at Super Bowl LIV in Miami.

  • Jay-z has always been a vocal supporter of Colin Kaepernick, former 49ers’ quarterback, who received criticism because of his kneeling gesture whenever the national anthem is played during the 2016-17 NFL season as a sign of protest.

TMZ was able to get hold of a video showing Jay-Z and Beyoncé sitting over Demi Lovato’s singing of the national anthem.

Music industry’s star couple, with Blue Ivy, their 8-year old daughter, were among the thousands of attendees on the game between Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

When Lovato started her performance of “The Star Strangled Banner” on the pre-game ceremony, Jay-Z and Beyoncé didn’t stand from their seats while everyone around them stood up for the national anthem.

San Franciso 49ers lose the game vs. Kansas City Chiefs that night.

It was reported that only six months ago, Jay-Z revealed that his agency, Roc Nation, has sealed a partnership with the NFL, giving the music industry mogul power over the football league’s music events. The deal included the halftime show, and the Inspired Change, NFL’s social justice initiative.

Fans immediately reacted to the deal, believing that it was all about Colin Kaepernick, the controversial quarterback formerly of the 49ers. Kaepernick was protesting against the authority’s alleged tyranny of the Black people in America.

As his means of protest, he was seen to have remained sitting while the national anthem was performed during a preseason game in 2016.

The former NFL player’s action has continued to garner mixed reactions from fans and the public, when he showed a similar action, including kneeling, in several games during the 2016-2017 NFL season. That was the last season Colin has ever played as any team did not offer him a contract, and fans believed that it has something to do with his protest method.

The star rapper, Jay-Z, has candidly shown his support to Kaepernick ever since, and this was evident on his performances, such as wearing a jersey with the former NFL player’s name and speaking about Colins protest.

In an interview with the New York Times, after the NFL deal, Jay-Z said that the forthcoming criticism is just a small sacrifice as compared to the importance of the message about social change.

Jay-z is pertaining to the White football fan’s discernment with the police abuse against Black people.

“As long as real people are being hurt and marginalized and losing family members, then yes, I can take a couple rounds of negative press.”

Jay-z added on the Times interview.
