British model Madalyn Davis had tragically passed away on Sunday morning after she fell from a popular cliff-top selfie spot in Australia.
Police reports stated that the 21-year-old had fallen from the 98-foot-high cliff in Diamond Bay Reserve in Sydney at around 6:30 am.
Davis reportedly came from a party in Vaucluse on Saturday night, after which she and seven friends headed to the cliffs in the early hours of Sunday.
It is believed that they had climbed over the safety fence to sit on the edge of the cliff to watch the sunrise.
According to NSW Police, emergency services — including Pol Air and the Marine Area Command — were called at 6:30 am.
It was four hours after the police were called when Madalyn’s body was found in the water.
The well-traveled British backpacker had arrived in Australia from Lincoln late last year and has been excited for her new life abroad.
The cliff has been a popular selfie spot for tourists looking to take Instagram photos, but it has become notorious for causing tourist deaths.
Just last August, a 27-year-old fell to her death from the tourist spot. According to witnesses, she may have been taking photos.
Madalyn’s mother, Rebecca Smith, had desperately tried to contact her daughter on Sunday afternoon. She had even asked online: “Anyone seen Maddie? Not been able to get hold of her please get in touch if you were out with her last night.”
But by Monday morning, her parents confirmed that Madalyn had died.
Social media sites were flooded with tributes to Madalyn, who was described as a “free spirit” and “beautiful inside and out” by friends.
One person wrote: “Such a beautiful soul, you just loved living life to the fullest, you was one of the nicest people, the most beautiful! you’ll be missed soo much, you really was taken too soon.”
A family member addressed everyone, saying: “Thank you for all your beautiful condolences for Madalyn Davis and her family – it is an absolute tragedy to which nothing has been confirmed.”
The police have launched an investigation regarding Madalyn’s death. Their statement read: “An investigation is underway. A report will be prepared for the coroner.”
