WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- A man was welcomed with a stinging snake bite when he opened the door to his friend’s house in Lawton, Oklahoma.
- The doorbell camera captured the exact moment when the 5-foot-5-inch snake pounced on his face and sank its teeth near his left eye.
- Thankfully, the snake was not venomous and the injury did not require stitches.
When Jerel Heywood walked up to the porch of his friend’s house, he got a different kind of welcome – a snakebite.
Heywood was visiting his friend, Rodney Copeland, in his Lawton, Oklahoma, residence when he got the stinging surprise.
The sneaky snake, which was 5 feet and 5 inches in length, was coiled on the porch light and ready to attack. The moment Heywood opened the screen door, it pounced on his face and sank its teeth near his left eye.
And the exact moment was captured on Copeland’s doorbell camera!
In an interview with FOX 40, Heywood said that he had no idea “what kind” of snake bit him. All he could think of was that he had “to get to the hospital.”
“I was in shock,” Copeland recounted. He said he could only stare in horror as his buddy stumbled through the door, all the while clutching his face and howling the F-word.
Copeland realized, “That could’ve been any one of us.”
Heywood was quickly taken to the emergency room. Thankfully, the snake was not venomous and the injury did not require stitches.
He stated, “They cleaned me up pretty good. I am on antibiotics.”
The snake, however, was not as lucky.
The commotion at Copeland’s house caught the attention of a neighbor, who came over with a hammer and pounded the creature to death.
Copeland plans to spray sulfuric acid throughout his yard to prevent future snake attacks. He explained, “I hear they don’t like that.”
The entire encounter can be seen in the video footage below:
