Despite the incident, Dmitrović continued to play and helped his team secure a win, advancing to the Round of 16. According to The Associated Press, Dmitrović was only playing because the team’s starter, Yassine Bounou, fell ill before the match. It is unclear what motivated the PSV fan to attack Dmitrović, but such behavior is never acceptable.
