Earlier this year, a shooting occurred at the Charlotte campus of the University of North Carolina. During the act of violence, two people lost their lives while several others were injured. According to authorities, the incident would have “absolutely” been a deadlier massacre if not for the heroic sacrifice of 21-year-old college student Riley Howell.
Howell had heroically stifled the shooting by tackling the gunman. Though the loss of many more lives was stopped, Howell lost his own. “He took the fight to the assailant,” said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney to reporters after the tragedy.
The young man was a noted passionate fan of Star Wars. Now, because of his selfless act of heroism, Riley has been immortalized within his beloved Sci-fi franchise.
Lucasfilm, the studio responsible for the fictional universe and all its facets, has canonized a new character in the official Star Wars mythology — a Jedi Master and historian of the Jedi order named Ri-Lee Howell.
The new character is featured in the new Star Wars movie’s companion books entitled Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary.
Lauren, Howell’s girlfriend, released a TikTok video saying thank you for giving her love “the best Christmas gift this year.” She also described how much it meant to her to have her lost loved one honored by the studio of the franchise he was passionate about. The video has since gone viral online.
