A Florida couple who was aboard the Carnival Fantasy found a recording device in their stateroom. The hidden camera was pointing at their bed, according to Chris and Dana White.
The couple told Inside Edition that they were on a three-day Caribbean cruise last October when they found the camera hidden among TV wires.
“I said, ‘Is that what I think it is?'” Chris said during the interview. “And she looked at it and she became concerned. And we were just really flabbergasted that there’s a camera in the room and it’s plugged up and it’s working.”
Chris recorded the moment when a Carnival employee was dismantling the video transmitter using his cellphone.
“I was thinking, ‘I can’t believe this is actually happening to us,'” Chris said.
The couple agreed for an interview now because they think the Carnival management did not handle the incident properly. Chris said that a company representative told them the device was not a camera.
In a statement to Inside Edition, Carnival said they conducted a thorough investigation about the incident. They also acknowledged that what was found was a “video transmitter.” But it “was not connected to an electrical source and not capable of recording,” according to the Carnival statement.
“The safety and security of our guests and crew is of paramount importance and we have taken measures so that this sort of situation does not happen again,” the statement also said.
The device found was turned over to the FBI for further inspection.
Chris is sure that “it was a camera.”
“It was wired up. It was working. It was warm to the touch,” he insisted.
While Dana said, “I just immediately felt like we had been invaded; our privacy had been invaded.”
The couple said they will never set foot on another Carnival Cruise ship ever again.
