WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:

  • Courteney Cox paid tribute to her Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow by singing Phoebe Buffay’s hilarious lyrics to Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” for an Instagram video.
  • Joining Cox were some of her famous friends including EltonJohn himself, Ed Sheeran and Brandi Carlile.
  • The quartet sings the song by changing the lyrics from “Tiny Dancer” to “Tony Danza” just like Phoebe did.

Friends alum Courteney Cox paid tribute to her co-star and real-life friend Lisa Kudrow by singing Phoebe Buffay’s funny misheard lyrics to Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer.” She enlisted three of her famous friends including Elton John himself for an Instagram video on Sunday.

Ed Sheeran and Brandi Carlile joined Cox, who played piano in the clip, and John for the video in which they changed the lyrics of the song from “Tiny Dancer” to “Tony Danza” as Phoebe did.

Kudrow or Phoebe chose “Tiny Dancer” as the most romantic song in one of the episodes on Season 3 of the series. She described it as “the one that Elton John wrote for that guy on ‘Who’s the Boss?’ But when she sang the song, she changed the lyrics to, “Hold me close, young Tony Danza.”

“One of the greatest moments of my life. This one’s for you @lisakudrow,” Cox captioned her Instagram post.

Kudrow responded with a video of her own, calling the group’s tribute “the most thrilling thing ever.” But she pointed out that the quartet didn’t get Phoebe’s version of the song quite right.

“Technically it’s ‘Hold me close, young Tony Danza,” but what you did was great too,” she added. “And, including the original song that you wrote, Sir Elton, that was really good too.”

“Ahahaha! You’re right Lisa!!!” Cox replied. “Next time we’ll make sure to get the ‘young’ in there.”

Actor Tony Danza also responded to the video, writing, “You’ve made my day once again! I’m honored!”
