WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Former NBA player Dennis Rodman has arrived in Singapore for a mission: to witness and be part of the historic US-North Korea summit.
- The controversial American celebrity tweeted he was ready for the “incredible success” that would result from the Trump-Kim meeting.
- Rodman landed at the airport ahead of the two leaders wearing a shirt from his sponsor, Potcoin, which read, “Peace begins in Singapore.”
Former professional basketball player Dennis Rodman arrived in Singapore just hours before US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un meet for the historic summit. Rodman tweeted about his arrival early morning, local time, on Tuesday and mentioned he was sponsored by PotCoin, a digital currency for cannabis.
“Just arrived to Singapore for the Historical Summit! Looking forward to @POTUS having incredible success that the whole world will benefit by. Thank you @potcoin for supporting my mission!” Rodman wrote.
Trump was asked last week if he had invited Rodman to join the summit. The president said no.
“No, he wasn’t, but I like Dennis. A great rebounder. You know when you think — Dennis was a great rebounder and he wasn’t, relatively speaking, that tall,” Trump replied.
Rodman stands at 6’7″.
Rodman claims he is a close friend of the North Korean leader, who is a huge basketball fan. The former NBA star has made several trips to North Korea in recent years and met with Kim. His most recent visit was in 2017. It coincided with the release of American Otto Warmbier, who was detained and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in North Korea.
Warmbier was arrested in January 2016 for attempted theft. He was released in a comatose state. Rodman implied he had a hand in the release. Warmbier died less than a week later.
