WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Seven boys from an Ohio middle school face charges after a 3-month long investigation found that they served their teachers with crepes tainted with semen and urine.
- The stunt was confirmed by the boys’ lawyer to have occurred during the school’s ‘Global Gourmet’ cooking event in May where they gave French pancakes doused with bodily fluids.
- The boys, all 14, face delinquency felony assault charges, delinquency complicity, and tampering with evidence.
Seven Ohio eighth-graders are facing charges after feeding their teachers with crepes tainted with urine and semen in a “gourmet” cooking competition.
The Columbus Dispatch reported that following a three-month investigation, the 14-year-old students of Hyatts Middle School in Powell were charged Tuesday in Delaware County Juvenile Court.
The French pancakes that they served on May 16 to four teachers were cooked with semen and doused with barbecue sauce mixed with urine.
The newspaper also reported that of the 7 students charged, four are now facing delinquency felony assault charges after agreeing to tell authorities how they came up with the plan. Their lawyer said their sick stunt took place during a Global Gourmet” cooking contest judged by teachers and captured on video.
The three other students were charged with delinquency complicity for coercing a teacher to take part in the stunt or not doing anything to stop it from happening. One of them is also facing charges of tampering with evidence when he erased the crepe caper footage.
According to attorney Brad Koffel, the students have already confessed and “have suffered more at home than they’re ever going to get in the court system.” He continued saying, “They’re eighth-grade kids. Psychologically, they clearly are suffering an amount of trauma because of their dumb actions.”
However, Koffel said the students’ parents should not be blamed because the incident was a product of social media-driven youth culture, rather than learned behavior” at home.
Although he thought that the felony charges are too severe for the teens, he also admitted that the stunt caused “psychological harm” to the teachers who ate the laced crepes.
WBNS reported too that Koffel did not say whether the Olentangy Local School District have disciplined the teens or whether any of them are still enrolled at the school.
Meanwhile, district officials said they were “saddened” by the criminal charges filed saying in a statement: “Our teachers deserve respect and kindness, and anything less than that is completely unacceptable. We will continue to support law enforcement in every way possible.”
