Entire SpaceX crew wore diapers on the way back to Earth

  • Issues with the SpaceX capsule’s onboard toilet left the astronauts without a bathroom option during their trip back home.
  • The crew had to rely on adult diapers during the journey.
  • The crew spent nearly 20 hours in the capsule, from the time the hatches closed to the splashdown.

Imagine Neil Armstrong wearing a diaper when he delivered his famous quote on the moon’s surface.

The SpaceX crew had to wear diapers on their way back home from the International Space Station because of their capsule’s broken toilet. The team spent roughly 20 hours in their SpaceX capsule.

NASA astronaut Megan McArthur said the situation was “suboptimal” but doable.

“Spaceflight is full of lots of little challenges,” she said at a news conference ahead of the flight. “This is just one more that we’ll encounter and take care of in our mission. So we’re not too worried about it.”

The four astronauts splashed down off the coast of Florida aboard their SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule on November 8, capping off their six-month mission in space.
