WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Several viewers have called out Sunday night’s exhibition boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul as fixed.
- A video clip from the fight showed that Mayweather appeared to have KO’d Paul, but lifted him up to make the match last for all eight rounds.
- While there was no official betting since it was an exhibition match with no official decision, many viewers were upset after considering Mayweather the favorite.
Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul’s Sunday night exhibition boxing match has been called a farce by many viewers, especially after a video clip from the fight circulated on social media.
During the last seconds of one round, Paul missed a lunge at Mayweather. The boxing champ then responded with a quick punch that hit the side of the YouTuber’s head.
Paul appeared to go limp, but Mayweather seemed to hold him up to prevent him from falling. This prevented a possible knockdown or knockout, making the fight last all eight rounds.
Paul managed to stay upright for the rest of the match, so it ended with no decision. Since the fight was an exhibition match, it will most likely end with no decision anyway, but with the exception of a knockout.
After the fight, Paul shared, “This is still one of the greatest moments of my life … damn, I’m happy. You never know with this guy, I’m going to go home thinking, ‘Yo, did Floyd let me survive?’”
Viewers surmised that each “boxer” might have been given an incentive to keep their match clean and last all rounds for possible future bookings.
Betting on an exhibition match with no official decision was not possible in the US. Still, Mayweather was listed as a -700 favorite in the UK, the Action Network reported. Many may have guessed that the fight was already fixed beforehand, but there were still some who were upset after betting on the favorite.
