HBO has officially ordered a spinoff of the successful series “Game of Thrones.” Titled “House of the Dragon,” the prequel will tell the story ofIts tagline will be “Fire will Reign” and will be based on George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood”
On Tuesday, HBO Programming president Casey Bloys announced that the “House of the Dragon” has been ordered straight to series and will be written by Ryan Condal., the author of the books on which “Game of Thrones” is based, will also be a co-executive producer. Ten episodes have been ordered for the spinoff so far.
GOT’s “Battle of the Bastards” episode director Miguel Sapochnik, who won an Emmy for directing it, will be a co-showrunner. Sapochnik is also set to direct the pilot and other episodes. Vince Gerardis will join Spochnik, Condal and Martin as an executive producer.
According to Bloys, “The ‘Game of Thrones’ universe is so rich with stories. We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan and George.”
Sapochnik has signed a new deal with HBO and “House of the Dragon” will be the first of many projects he will have for the network. He’ll develop and produce content for both HBO and HBO Max.
The prequel announcement comes hours afteranother spinoff set to star Naomi Watts. The unnamed series would have highlighted the “Age of Heroes” and the first-ever battle between humans and White Walkers, thousands of years before the events in the “Game of Thrones” series took place, CBS News reported.
