Here’s the scoop!
- A man snowmobiling in Idaho jumped off his vehicle just in time to avoid being trampled by a charging moose.
- The man’s brother had tried to draw the moose’s attention away from the group but the engine of his snowmobile died.
- The incident was caught on camera, and the moose was not injured.
A group of snowmobilers in Idaho had a close call with a charging moose, and the moment was captured on video. Jeremiah Bigelow and his family members were snowmobiling near the town of Palisades when a moose suddenly ran out in front of them.
Bigelow’s brother had pulled out ahead of the group and tried to draw the moose’s attention away from them, but the engine of his snowmobile died. The video shows him jumping off just as the moose collides with the vehicle.
Fortunately, everyone in the group was unharmed and the moose walked away from the incident without injury. Bigelow shared the video on Facebook as a cautionary tale about the importance of keeping a safe distance from wildlife. Moose are native to nearly the entire state of Idaho and can be encountered year-round.
As the Idaho Department of Fish and Game advises, “Give moose plenty of space and never approach or corner them. They are unpredictable and can be aggressive when threatened or harassed.”

We have had three different moose wander into town during greenie caused forest fires. Two were darted and carted off by Fish & Game officials for relocation. They had planned on setting up residence at the country club’s ponds. The third one ambled up our street around 4 am probably looking to read the local rag of of a newspaper. Pictures do not do these critters justice as to the size they are when up close.
