WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- This man cut his own tongue out, offering it to deities to stop the coronavirus pandemic.
- There are no reports about the success of the procedure to reattach the severed tongue.
- Indian media reports claim that the action was believed a sacrifice to please Nadeshwari Mataji, an Indian deity.
Vivek Sharma, 24 years old, was sent to the hospital after he was found unconscious with his tongue in his hand. The man cut his own tongue out to appease deities, his efforts are directed to stop the coronavirus pandemic with his offering, reports claim.
The reports accounting for the mental state of the patient before the incident indicate that the man is frustrated with the lockdown in the country. The restrictions following the safety protocol barred him from going back to Morena district, Madhya Pradesh, his hometown.
The man is part of a construction team, working on the Bhavani Mata temple in Suigam for the last two months. His co-workers claim that he told them he was going to the market on the day of the incident but had not come back to their work-site.
It was then that his brother made attempts to reach him, only for a stranger to answer the phone call, informing him that Vivek Sharma is unconscious after he cut his tongue at the Nadeshwari temple. Tharad hospital admitted the patient, attempting reattachment procedures. There remain no official reports to date about the success of the procedure.
Indian media reports sources that point the police investigation to direction wherein the action was believed a sacrifice to please Nadeshwari Mataji, seeking an end to this virus outbreak. These reports are unconfirmed until an investigation into the incident is completed, says police inspector HD Parmar.
The police inspector released the statement of the police department, “For the last few days, he was keen to go back to his native town in Madhya Pradesh, but it was impossible due to lockdown. Today in reckless abandon, he chopped off his tongue.”
“We found him lying unconscious in the temple premises with the tongue in his hand. The priest called the Border Security Force (BSF) commander and Sharma was moved to a hospital in Tharad town where doctors are trying to reattach his tongue.”
“Only after thorough investigation, we will know the exact reason for such a step,” he finished.
