WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Beauty guru Jeffree Star is facing accusations of sexual assault, racist commentary, and bribery that date as far back as 2009.
- Star and his attorneys are considering all legal options against Insider.
- Star has either denied allegations or apologized and admitted flaws.
It seems that beauty guru Jeffree Star is a controversy magnet. The makeup industry star is now embroiled in accusations of racist commentary, sexual assault, physical violence, and bribery.
Insider presented a lengthy report detailing how Star had already faced accusations even before he became a YouTube sensation with 17 million followers and built his makeup empire.
Several people claimed that men from his inner circle were regularly groped by Star and that he also groped a man during his Warped Tour performance. He also allegedly used a gun tasing device at close range for those who rejected him or those he wanted to punish.
According to Star, the man from the Warped Tour was a friend and that they were “jokingly touching one another.”
The allegations of a then-17-year-old homeless teen Gage Arthur in 2009 was also called “false and defamatory” by Star’s attorney.
Arthur alleged that after he rejected Star at a movie theater and later stayed overnight at his apartment, Star “gave him Ambien until he was intoxicated and forcibly performed oral sex on him without his consent.”
But a witness and accuser later tried to recant their stories after an offer of $10,000, allegedly by Star.
“While Insider may believe that generating click-bait is more important than honest reporting, facts still matter. This so-called exposé is nothing but a defamatory collection of long-discredited allegations, misleading hearsay from more than a decade ago, and outright lies,” said a spokesperson on behalf of Jeffree Star.
“Tellingly, all of the key individuals involved have refused to substantiate Insider’s bogus claims, while many, including Jeffree’s representatives, presented the reporter with a mountain of evidence proving that these allegations are false. She, regrettably and unethically, chose to ignore that evidence because it did not fit with her predetermined narrative,” the statement continued.
They added, “Insider’s article is textbook defamation, rife with malice and demonstrating a reckless disregard for the truth, and, as a result, Jeffree is considering all of his legal options.”
Accusations of misconduct are not new to Star as he apologized for past racist slurs. And although he did not apologize for a specific behavior, he said he was “fully admitting [his] flaws” and that “when you accept that you are the problem, you can become the solution.”
He did apologize to James Charles, another prominent blogger, for not connecting offline when fellow YouTuber Westbrook accused him of manipulating drama about Charles.
Star also denied recent accusations of bribing his new boyfriend Andre Marhold to date him in August. Star then revealed this week that he has broken up with the basketball player as he stole Louis Vuitton purses and other goods to which Marhold answered that Star is “lying.”
