WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Fans of the LA Laker’s future Hall of Famer, Kobe Bryant, keep visiting a grave that belongs to another person.
- A report published by a news outlet mistook a grave with gold and purple flowers as Kobe and Gianna’s.
- Kobe and Gianna’s death certificate had listed the memorial park as their final resting place.
Fans by the hundreds have gathered to the wrong burial site to pay their final respects to Kobe Bryant after the Laker legend died in a helicopter crash last month.
Pacific View Memorial Park in California had to double their security as groups of grievers have caused confusion on the site. The cemetery told USA Today that a previous article from another news outlet has wrongly identified a private lot that belongs to another family as the burial site for father and daughter, Kobe and Gianna.
A spokesperson for Service Corporation International, Ashley Bunton, affirms that the site is not of Kobe and Gianna’s. The company that owns Pacific View Memorial Park, also told USA Today that they could not disclose more information as to where Kobe and Gianna’s final resting place could be, but, they can only say that the fans are mistaken.
From the time when the Daily Mail published the wrong information, employees of the memorial park had to do daily clearing of the site for piles of flowers brought by fans and visitors.
Bunton also said that their staff has since monitored lots of people going and roaming around the cemetery for a chance to find the right burial site.
A helicopter crash claimed the lives of Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, 41, his daughter, Gianna, 13, and seven other people with them during the accident.
Death certificates of Kobe and Gianna had Pacific View Memorial Park registered as their burial site, just a 10-minute drive from the Newport Coast residence of the Bryants’.
The supposed spot was marked by the Mail in their report and it showed a cemetery gravesite filled with flowers that are purple and gold, the Laker’s official colors.
In the same interview with USA Today, Bunton said that the combination of colors was merely a coincidence. She added that the fans are already disturbing the family of the person who was buried in the yard since November. Bunton added that some fans even came across the family members, who, to some extent, drove people away from the spot.
