WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Celebrities shared their reactions and realizations brought on by the magnitude 4.2 earthquake in the Southern California area.
- Some remarked that the shaking felt much more serious than the officially reported numbers.
- Others realized just how unprepared they were for an earthquake.
Celebrities in the Southern California area had quite the wake-up call early Thursday after a magnitude 4.2 earthquake hit the area at about 4:30 a.m. local time.
The earthquake was initially reported a 4.5 by the United States Geological Survey but was later corrected.
According to the report, the quake originated in Pacoima, California, located about 25 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
Celebrity residents just had to share their reactions and realizations on Twitter.
Most of them pointed out that the jolt indeed felt more serious than the official numbers reported.
Chrissy Teigen remarked: “4.5!!? It’s always smaller than it feels. Anyhoo LA keeping it exciting, nature is crazy.”
Khloé Kardashian also shared, “Oh man!! Wow that felt much bigger than a 4.5 #earthquake. So scary! Sneakers and my flashlight by my bed 🙏🏽🙏🏽.”
Kelly Clarkson also expressed her fears, especially for her young kids, but 6-year-old daughter River Rose and 4-year-old son Remington Alexander were more “curious” than afraid of the quake.
She tweeted: “My children are in my arms and we are awake too early because of that earthquake but now they’re discussing how their ninja skills would totally help in this time. I’m just happy they’re more interested and curious about it and less scared. Hallelujah!”
Jameela Jamil kept it light, quipping that it was “The most 2020 #earthquake to wake up to.”
Some celebrities said it was kind of a wake-up call to realize their utter lack of emergency preparedness for an earthquake — which is a common West Coast occurrence.
“Just realized my ‘earthquake kit’ is a bag of Doritos and one snow boot,” shared comedian Patton Oswalt.
JoJo pointed out her lack of preparedness while throwing shade at the government’s handling of the coronavirus crisis: “My preparedness for an earthquake is the same as the US government for COVID-19. None.”
Amber Riley, meanwhile, had to vent her frustration for the earthquake’s audacity to disrupt her sleep so early in the morning. She tweeted: “*punches air* *goes back to sleep* #earthquake.”
