A 24-year-old man who is accused of hurling a five-year-old child of a stranger who is of no relation to him from the third floor at the Mall of America on Friday had been identified by police.
Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda from the Minneapolis metro area is currently being held at the Bloomington Police Department after police chased him down the mall; he was charged with attempted homicide. Police believed that there is no relationship between the man and child, or the man to the child’s family.
After the man allegedly tossed the child from the balcony, police were alerted and called to the Mall of America in Bloomington this morning. According to witnesses, after the child was thrown, a woman was screaming hysterically.
One witness, Brian Johnson told WCCO that she was screaming, “Oh my God, my baby, someone threw him over the edge!” Johnson also told the Daily News that he only saw the aftermath of the incident. He said the child was lying motionless in a pool of blood.
Emergency crews and police who rushed in immediately administered first aid to the 5-year-old.
Bloomington Chief of Police Jeff Potts said that based on accounts from witnesses, the child “might have been pushed or thrown”. He went on to confirm that the child has suffered serious injuries and is currently at the hospital receiving care.
