WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Lenise Martin was inspired by the viral video of a teenager licking Blue Bell ice cream so he also did it in a Louisiana store.
- When his video went out and Martin was reported, he came back to the store and showed a receipt claiming the ice cream was actually purchased.
- But Martin was still taken into custody for the unlawful posting of criminal activity, for notoriety and publicity and tampering with property.
Lenise Martin III from Louisiana has been arrested for allegedly licking Blue Bell ice cream and returning it to the store freezer, an act he copied from a viral video of a girl doing the same disgusting act in a Walmart store in Texas.
In a video shared online, Martin is seen licking the opened ice cream twice and sticking his finger into it, and smiled at the camera before returning it to the freezer.

According to WAFTB-TV, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Martin was apprehended.
When the store management learned of the video, Martin returned and showed a receipt claiming the contaminated ice cream was actually purchased.
Martin was ultimately charged with the unlawful posting of criminal activity for notoriety and publicity and tampering with property by the authorities who questioned him after the store management reported him.
“He puts it on Facebook to gain this notoriety and at the end of the day, it gives other people ideas that are not the best interest of public health,” commander Lonny Cavalier told CNN. “He did it and he did want to create some notoriety for himself by posting it on Facebook and that’s exactly what he did.”
A spokesperson for the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office warns any future copycat, that they will pursue and charge them “immediately and with the full extent of the law,” according to WAFTB-TV.
Based on the comments Martin made, the sheriff’s office concluded he was inspired by the viral video of a teenager who, in her deleted Instagram post, wrote, “You can call it Flu Bell ice cream now ’cause I was a lil sick last week. Repost yourself doing this with the hashtag #tinroofchallenge. Let’s see if we can start an epidemic (literally).”
