WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Jason Windus put up a fence that was 6 feet tall around his yard so he could let his dogs run around outdoors.
- Due to a complaint from a neighbor, Windus was forced to reduce the height of his fence by half.
- Though he cut down his fence, he protested the unfairness in his own way by putting a bunch of naked mannequins on display on his yard.
In Santa Rosa, California, a man built a 6-foot-tall fence around his yard. Jason Windus spent $9,000 to make sure his two dogs had somewhere they could run around. However, one of his neighbors filed a complaint with the city, saying that the view of drivers of oncoming traffic was obstructed at the intersection.
Windus was forced to trim down his fence, city officials telling him that he’d have to pay a fine of $500 for every day his fence stayed the same. Windus told San Francisco station KGO-TV that the officials made him “freak out.”
He thought that what they were asking for wasn’t really fair either. “As you drive through the neighborhood you’ll see that nobody else’s fence had to be cut down but mine.”
Still, the man complied with the city’s request, but not without making his own statement after the fact. He had several naked, anatomically accurate, mannequins that he was saving for target practice. Windus arranged four of them around a table on his yard while one female figure stands at the forefront with her arms raised over her head.
Aside from the quintet of dummies, the display includes a sign- “Reserved seat for the nosey neighbor that complained about my fence to the city.”
The locals seem to have a great sense of humor and actually like the display. Windus told Oakland station KTVU-TV that he’s had around fifty people stopping to take pictures and tell him how “great” the naked protest is.
