WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- A man in the United States joked about having COVID-19 and caused eight hours of delay in flight.
- HAZMAT and police officers then turned up to take the man out of the plane.
- The man was eventually arrested for causing the flight delay.
A man meant to fly on American Airlines from Dallas, Texas going to Nashville, Tennessee joked that he has COVID-19. This caused him to delay the flight three times and taking the plane eight hours to take off.
The plane with flight number 1076 was scheduled to arrive in Nashville at 8:40 PM on Saturday. But it didn’t arrive until 4:40 in the morning, the next day which is already Sunday.
The man was reported to have lifted his tray table up and said he was infected with the coronavirus, just before the plane took off. A passenger named Brandon Kenney witnessed what happened. He said, “People were freaked out because nobody knew what was going on. People didn’t know if he was actually sick or if he really didn’t have coronavirus or not.”
Surely, he was taken very seriously; so HAZMAT crews together with police officers had boarded the plane to have the man removed from the flight. This caused the passengers to panic, which later turned into frustration as this led to some crew members to refuse to fly.
Kenney also said that “Right after he was escorted off the plane, one of the cops came back and kind of explained the situation to the people that were sitting near him and kind of spelled it out for us and told us not to worry about it and really was just talking about how he was joking about having the coronavirus.”
Further delays soon took place when crew, and maintenance issues arose. But the man who caused the panic and delay was eventually arrested.
