In Maine, a man tried to post his $200 bail with counterfeit bills, according to local authorities.
Police responding to a report of a stolen vehicle in Waterboro stopped a man walking nearby, the York County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post. They ultimately determined he wasn’t involved, but arrested him on an outstanding warrant for theft, according to Sheriff William King.
The suspect said he had enough cash to post $200 bail, but he tried to pay the bail commissioner with two counterfeit $100 bills.
The man was denied bail and sent back to jail with an additional charge of forgery.
He was able to post $100 bail later in the day, authorities said.
