WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- McAfee software company founder John McAfee was arrested in Norway on Monday for wearing a thong as a face mask.
- Taking over his Twitter account, McAfee’s wife Janice said that John was arrested not because of wearing a lady underwear mask but his refusal to wear a “medically-certified” mask.
- According to the couple, masks only stop bacteria but not viruses.
The eccentric founder of McAfee antivirus computer software, John McAfee, 74, was arrested in Norway for wearing a thong as a face cover, according to a report.
The Daily Mail reported that McAfee tweeted on Monday, saying that he was jailed over his refusal to wear a medically certified face mask as he insisted to wear a lady underwear instead.
“Trivial issue but waiting for high level beaurocrats [sic] to arrive. Slow bastards, as you know,” McAfee tweeted.
“My Coronavirus mask is the problem. I am insisting it is the safest available and I’m refusing to wear anything else — for my health’s sake. Authority!?!?!?!?,” he said in another tweet.
“Going to have to cancel the Red Scarf Society meeting. I am so sorry. Note to future adventurers: Always joke with you captors. No matter what,” McAfee continued.
Moments later, using McAfee’s twitter account, his wife Janice said that she will be handling it for the meantime.
“I’ll manage John’s account until he escapes (usual method), bribes someone (very quick – might be out in a few hours), retains the right lawyer (will be a few days) or becomes warden of the jail, in which case we will have to force him out,” she tweeted.
Janice also wrote that her husband “was not arrested for wearing the thong as a mask” but because of his refusal to replace it with a ‘medically certified’ mask.
Posting images of her husband wearing a black thong, Janice shared McAfee’s stance that masks only stop bacteria and not viruses.
She also said that she refused to wear such mask but noted that they only arrested McAfee.
Moments later, she posted a video that showed their private jet as it was about to take off back to their home in Munich.
“I’m following John’s instructions and heading back. He assured me he would be released,” she said.
In a succeeding tweet, McAfee announced that he was back in Belarus and got a black eye.
“I cannot speak publicly about my fun and games yesterday, regrettably, but after a few hours sleep I will be back with my usual stream of conscious (sic) Good to be back,” he said.
Prior to the incident, McAfee shared his thoughts about viruses and bacteria.
“Yes, coronavirus, although large for a virus, is still 2,000 times smaller than a large bacteria, which masks do stop. And yes, I know viruses in droplets are released when the droplets evaporate. Duh!! But … I have breathed through this mask. What could survive?” he tweeted on Saturday.
