Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their second child Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor on Friday.
According to the Sussexes’ spokesperson, the baby weighed in at 7 lbs, 11 oz. The child was named after the Queen’s nickname, while her middle name was chosen in honor of Harry’s mother, Diana. Lili is the eighth in line to the British throne.
The announcement did not feature any photos.
In March, Harry and Meghan did an explosive TV interview with Oprah Winfrey where they discussed several issues, including the concerns within the royal family about their first child’s skin color.
Buckingham Palace said the racism allegations made by the couple were “concerning,” and that they will address the issue within the royal family in private.
Winfrey and Harry collaborated on “The Me You Can’t See”, an Apple TV+ mental health series that aims to raise awareness on mental health.
Harry married American actor Meghan Markle in May 2018 at Windsor Castle. They welcomed their first son Archie a year later.
Early last year, the couple announced they were leaving their royal life and moving to North America, citing the British media’s unbearable intrusions and racist attitudes. The couple’s new residence is located in Montecito, a wealthy seaside community near Santa Barbara, California.
Last year, Meghan shared she suffered a miscarriage in July 2020. Before the miscarriage, Harry revealed that he was living off the inheritance he received from his mother after he was cut off financially from the Royal family at the start of 2020, when he announced his plans of quitting his royal duties.
In the Oprah interview, Meghan admitted that her son’s lack of royal title concerned her because it meant he wouldn’t get security. Meghan said thinking about his son’s lack of safety and protection as a royal gave her a hard time during her pregnancy.
Meghan also said she couldn’t understand why the royal family had concerns about her son’s skin color.
Harry also said the royal family’s treatment of Meghan, and his relationship with his family, have lasting impacts.
