HERE’S THE SCOOP:
- An Air New Zealand flight from JFK to Auckland was forced to turn back after just 16 hours, due to an electrical fire knocking out power to John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 1.
- The flight was carrying over 200 passengers and crew members, who were evacuated safely and without injury.
- The incident highlights the importance of proper maintenance and safety protocols for all aircraft, and serves as a reminder of the many risks that come with air travel.
It was supposed to be a journey to the other side of the world, but instead it turned into 16 hours in the air at 35,000 feet! That’s right folks, an Air New Zealand flight from Auckland to JFK was forced to turn back after just 16 hours, thanks to an electrical fire that caused Air New Zealand at Terminal 1 at JFK to turn flights away.
But don’t worry, the over 200 passengers and crew members onboard were able to land safely. It’s a reminder that even in the age of modern aviation, the real world technology and life can still be a dangerous and unpredictable place.
The incident highlights the importance of proper maintenance and safety protocols for all airports, and shows just how quickly things can change at any moment. So if you’re planning on taking to the skies any time soon, be sure to buckle up, say a prayer, and hope that your flight doesn’t turn into a 16 hour round trip fiasco!

Why didn’t they just land at another airport, like Dulles, BWI, Boston, Chicago, San Mateo, Burbank, Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale, Honolulu, Kahlului, Kansas City, Denver, Salt Lake City, Seattle, or Anchorage?
That was my thought..something is stupid with this.
Robert Salinas Jr. says
That would have made to much sense.
That makes NO sense. They couldn’t have been diverted?
“Ladies and gentlemen, we hope you’ve enjoyed your flight on Air New Zealand and hope you will fly with us again.”
There were over 200 angry passengers who won’t be flying with them again!
After 16 hrs they should have been more than halfway there with plenty of other places to turn back to that were closer. This story makes no sense at all. And why would a flight IN air cause a fire at a terminal in NYC?
Maybe they are just screwing with us….the readers..or they think we are dumb? Or they are dumb..
Robert Salinas Jr. says
How much fuel was on that airplane? Doesn’t make sense.
Just goes to show, you can’t fix stupid!!!!!~!
Must be a bunch of WOKE folks in charge.
Doug Litchfield says
“Pothole Pete” will get right on that one in a couple of weeks. Not sure if it will be the flight or just schematics which he will understand neither.
Lets see now. Air New Zealand flight from JFK to Auckland was forced to turn back after just 16 hours, due to an electrical fire knocking out power to John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal
.Plane is in the air 16 hours on it’s way to Auckland and had to turn back due to an electric problem at the air port they supposedly left from. Something does not make sense ….
