Many people have been left perplexed by a creature that washed ashore on an Australian beach.

Drew Lambert noticed a strange-looking animal washed up on the strand of Australia’s Bondi Beach during a jog on April 5, according to Storyful.

Lambert filmed the strange find and uploaded it to Facebook with the caption:

“Can someone please tell me what this weird alien-like creature is that was washed up on the beach at Bondi today.”

The odd creature was about a half meter long, with human-like lips and shark-like skin, according to the jogger.

He claimed that in his 20 years in Bondi, he had never seen anything like that.

Based on the responses he received after sharing the video of the creature on Facebook, Lambert told Storyful that he now believes the animal was a “decomposing coffin ray” with “ballooned” intestines.

A supervisor at Sea Life Sydney Aquarium, Laetitia Hannan, thought the same way. A coffin ray, also called Australian numbfish, is a species found near the shore throughout Australia’s east and west coastlines, Hannan told news.com.au.

Another man discovered a distinct creature on an Australian beach less than two weeks ago. In a video he posted to Instagram, Alex Tan describes the unidentified animal he encountered as an “extraterrestrial.”

“How weird is that?” Tan adds in the clip, “Looks like a dehead[ed] possum, but different to anything I’ve seen.”
