Sarah Jessica Parker comments on Kim Cattrall’s absence in ‘Sex and the City’ reboot

  • A new installment of Sex and the City will be out soon and its original stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis will be reprising their roles, according to a teaser video released online on Sunday evening.
  • However, Kim Cattrall who played the iconic role of Samantha Jones won’t be joining them.
  • Parker responded to fans’ queries about Cattral saying Samantha will always be missed and ‘will always be there with us.’

Sarah Jessica Parker addressed questions from fans about Kim Cattrall not joining the cast in the soon to be released ‘Sex and the City’ revival after sharing a teaser video of the new show on social media Sunday evening.

While SATC original stars Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are all on board for the new installment titled And Just Like That…, Cattrall, who played the bold and funny Samantha Jones, had been noticeably missing from the posts.

Due to reports about a feud between Parker and Cattral, an Instagram user suggested that both actresses must have disliked each other. However, Parker, who played sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw, wrote: “No. I don’t dislike her. I’ve never said that. Never would. Samantha isnt [sic] part of this story. But she will always be part of us. No matter where we are or what we do.”

“Happy to see you back but will miss Kim/Samantha,” wrote another fan to which Parker replied, “We will too. We loved her so,” even adding “She will always be there,” in response to another fan who said she’d miss Samantha.

When asked who would be playing Samantha, SJP said, “We have some new stories to tell. We are excited. X”

Though fans were upset to hear the official announcement that Cattral won’t be returning to the new show, it’s not a surprise. Cattral had always been vocal about not being on best terms with the cast since they were on the original series that ran from 1998 to 2004. After playing Samantha for the last time in the 2010 film SATC 2, she declined to reprise her role in a 3rd film while refuting reports that she is a diva.

During an October 2017 appearance in Piers Morgan’s show, she told Morgan that she’s “never been friends” with her SATC co-stars. “We’ve been colleagues, and in some ways it’s a very healthy place to be.”

In January 2018, Parker said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that she found Cattrall’s comments upsetting and very hurtful.

“It’s sad, but I always think that what ties us together is this singular experience. It was a professional experience but it became personal because it was years and years of our lives, so I’m hoping that that sort of eclipses anything that’s been recently spoken.”

Production for the new series, which follows the ladies as they head into their 50s, is expected to start in late spring.
