WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Sixteen-year-old Samantha Zumwalt runs her own business selling slime.
- Her business, named Samantha’s Slime Shop, has sold tens of thousands of jars of slime.
- She even grossed six figures last year selling her products on Amazon.
You’ve seen lots of little kids play with it, probably on tons of videos on YouTube too. Slime is definitely something that can be strange, pretty, and entertaining, and a teen from Garland, Texas decided to turn that into a business.
Samantha Zumwalt was first introduced to slime by a friend who taught her how to make it. Samantha’s mom, Jessica, “left it up” to her daughter to see how far she wanted to take it. The result was Samantha’s Slime Shop.
The shop is based in Samantha’s home, she makes her slime there too. Her “slime room” is lined with shelves and tables filled with containers of everything from glitter to charms, scents, food coloring, as well as the ingredients for a good slime base.
On Etsy alone, Samantha’s Slime Shop has sold over 40,000 containers of slime. Just last year, she grossed hundreds of thousands of dollars on Amazon, selling around 9,000 of her products.
“I think slime is so popular because it’s something you want to touch,” the 16-year-old said. Her slime’s so popular, the shop gets 20-40 orders. That number rises to 50-100 during the weekends.
It used to be just Samantha and her mom, but to keep up with the growing demand, they had to hire around 10 employees to help them out.
Samantha puts her full focus on her business because she’s finished her schooling and is just waiting to take her GED’s when she turns 17. It’s great practice on how to be an entrepreneur and her mom helps Samantha out by teaching her finance and accounting since Jessica has a BBA in accounting and an MBA. Jessica also hopes that her daughter will inspire others as well with her success.
