WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- A former 6th-grade teacher from Arizona allegedly enticed her student who is a minor to perform sexual acts with her after connecting in a classroom chat page.
- The boy’s parents discovered how he had been communicating with the teacher through an app installed in the boy’s cellphone.
- Although other students alerted school authorities of the suspected relationship between the two, they were not immediately addressed.
A 27-year-old former Arizona middle school teacher is accused of seducing a 13-year-old student into having sex via text messaging, say police reports.
Documents obtained by KPNX revealed that the incident started when Brittany Zamora, married, and a former 6th-grade teacher at Las Brisas Academy Elementary School in Goodyear asked her students to text her because she won’t be in class that day. It was through the classroom chat called ‘Class Craft’ that Zamora started to allegedly victimize the teen.
According to the station, the purported victim told detectives that the messaging between the pair progressed to flirting. He added that he didn’t expect that the situation would turn “really intense.”
Transcripts of their exchanges showed that Zamora bombarded the boy with texts like, “OMG you’re so cute, baby. I wish you could’ve stayed after with me.” Which prompted the boy to answer in kind saying, “Me too. I wish I could just hang out with you whenever we wanted.”
Court records also revealed that at least 4 sexual encounters took place between February and March. The teen told detectives that Zamora performed oral sex on him in her classroom and also in her car on two occasions late at night. He also added that both of them exchanged naked photos.
KPNX reports that after noticing that their son had been acting peculiar, the teen’s parents installed a parental control app on his cellphone. They were later alerted of the inappropriate exchanges between the two. The boy admitted to having sex with Zamora after his parents confronted him.
Before the alleged sexual assaults took place, 3 female students wrote to school officials on Feb. 7 about their concerns about the alleged relationship they noticed between the pair. The school’s principal Tim Dickey has since admitted to investigators that he made a mistake of speaking to only one of the students. Nine days after the letter was sent, the first sexual act occurred on Feb. 16.
Zamora apologized to the boy’s parents in one recorded phone call. Aside from promising to resign from her school position, she pleaded to them that she didn’t want her life destroyed by the allegations. Despite this, she wasn’t able to explain why the alleged assaults took place.
“We just got close,” was all she said.
In March, Zamora was arrested shortly after the recorded phone call. She pleaded not guilty to having sexual conduct with a minor and molesting a child. She now remains in custody at a jail in Maricopa County.
