WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Democratic presidential tandem Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris have been officially endorsed by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
- In an Instagram video he posted on Sunday, Johnson announced his first-ever backing of a political candidate and also shared his conversation with the tandem.
- Biden and Harris told Johnson that to earn the respect of the Americans, they would speak the truth.
Making his first public declaration of support to a political candidate, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and running mate Senator Kamala Harris.
On Sunday, Johnson, 48, posted a video on Instagram announcing his support, and showing the virtual conversation he had with the Democratic candidates.
“I’m going to be pushing this political conversation just a little bit more,” he started the video before showing his chat with the pair.
“Now, this is something that I’ve certainly not done in the past, so I’m going to go big. You guys know me, if I go, I go big!”
The Rock added: “As a registered Independent for years now with centrist ideologies, I do feel that Vice President Biden and Sen. Harris are the best choice to lead our country, and I am endorsing them to become president and vice president.”
Johnson showed a conference together with Biden and Harris. He appeared to be in his home. Meanwhile, the two candidates were sitting together on a stage.
He started the talk by describing each of their qualifications he saw in them being of service for the Americans for a long time.
“You’ve led, in my opinion, with great compassion and heart and drive, but also soul,” as he addressed Biden.
Then turning to the senator, Johnson said: “You’ve been an attorney, a district attorney, a state attorney, a U.S. senator, smart, tough – I’ve seen you in those hearings – and, in my opinion, you are a certified bada–.”
The Rock also threw a question to the tandem as he cited the motto of his late father about the principle of respect as something that needs to be earned.
“How will you earn the respect of the American people once you’re inside the White House?” he asked.
“By doing what we say we’re going to do, by keeping our word, by leveling with the American people, by taking responsibility,” the former vice president responded.
“Tell the truth! It sounds so basic, but the American people are strong, they’re tough. They can take anything if you level with them and tell the truth,” Biden continued.
Harris then added: “it’s about trust, right? As we know the nature of trust… it’s a reciprocal relationship. You give and you receive trust. And one of the foundations of trust is truth, you must speak truth. But here’s the reality, truth can sometimes be difficult to hear and for that reason sometimes people don’t speak it, but you cannot have trust if you don’t speak truth.”
