WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- A transgender man who was on testosterone for years had stopped having periods and was told by his doctors that he could not get pregnant.
- Wyley Simpson, 28, was transitioning to be a man when he was impregnated by his fiancé, Stephen Gaeth.
- Though the pregnancy came as a surprise, Simpson carried through with his pregnancy and gave birth in 2018 to a baby boy via emergency C-section.
Wyley Simpson, 28, was transitioning from female to male when he discovered that he was pregnant. Not surprisingly, he was shocked and nervous at first, feeling that he was not ready to have a baby.
Simpson has been taking testosterone since 2012. In 2013, he had top surgery but has yet to have bottom surgery — an operation that will give him a penis. He has stopped having periods and his doctors told him he could not get pregnant. But, he did.
Simpson and his fiancé, Stephan Gaeth, 28, decided to keep the baby. But it was not an easy task, especially when Simpson battles abuse and judgment from strangers on a daily basis.
He gave birth on September 5, 2018, to a baby boy they named Rowan via emergency C-section. The Texas couple has just celebrated their son turning six-months-old.
Simpson shared how hard his pregnancy journey was: ‘It’s not every day that someone sees a pregnant man walking down the road, so we received a fair amount of abuse – I would be told that I’ll never be a man, “men don’t carry babies” and everyone called me “it”.
He said that he received rude comments from strangers, which affected him emotionally.
“Having gone through the transitioning process since I was 21-years-old, having a physical baby bump was something so feminine that messed with my head,” Simpson recalled. “But it was all worth it to have Rowan and to become a father – I wouldn’t have changed a thing.”
Simpson added that he will not do it again, saying “I am looking to fully transition in the future, so the likelihood of having another child naturally is unlikely.”
But he said he’s glad that he was able to “go through something as amazing and natural as birthing my own child, it’s definitely made mine and Rowan’s bond so much closer.”
