An Ohio family had an unexpected house guest when a trapped owl caused a carbon monoxide leak, forcing them to evacuate their home. The culprit, a feathered creature, had found its way into the chimney and couldn’t escape.
The Cincinnati Animal CARE Humane Society tweeted the news on March 16 following the successful rescue and release of the bird.
Never a dull moment for Hamilton County Dog Wardens! A family was recently evacuated from their home due to a carbon monoxide leak… Caused by an owl stuck in their chimney! Lt. The Hamilton County Dog Wardens team, operated by Cincinnati Animal CARE, arrived at the scene to rescue the trapped owl. The team safely removed the bird from the chimney, and it was reportedly unharmed. A video of the owl being released and flying away was shared with Fox News Digital.
It’s not uncommon for owls to become trapped in chimneys, as they are cavity nesters and may mistake a chimney for a hollow tree. The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife recommends placing a metal cap with a screen on chimneys to prevent wild animals from entering homes.
As for the Ohio family, they were able to return to their home thanks to the successful owl rescue.
