Hold onto your hats, folks, because we’ve got some wild news out of Draper City, Utah.
Two houses have collapsed and slid down a trail due to some seriously sketchy building conditions. And get this – their certificates of occupancy were revoked all the way back in October of last year. Yikes!
Luckily, no one was hurt during the collapses, but officials are taking this seriously. Engineers and building officials have determined that two more houses nearby need to be evacuated, since the snow melting could cause further sliding and danger.
So what caused these houses to fall apart?
Apparently, the earth shifting caused the foundations to break and the houses to slide down the hill. These homes were built in 2021 by a housing developer called Edge Homes, who claims they’ve never seen anything like this before.
Well, we sure hope not!
Draper City had been following up with Edge Homes for months about the stability of the homes, but the company didn’t agree with the decision to revoke the occupancy permits.
Eventually, though, they came around and are now working with the affected homeowners to pay for their relocation and temporary housing expenses.
The company is also planning to focus on stabilizing the hillside and making sure this doesn’t happen again.
And let’s be real – it’s a good thing they’re taking this seriously. We wouldn’t want any more houses sliding down the hill like it’s some kind of weird carnival game.
So if you live in the area and your house starts feeling a little shaky, you might want to call Edge Homes and ask them to take a closer look.
Just kidding, of course – but seriously, let’s hope they learn from this and build more stable homes in the future.
