Two zebras escape from Illinois pumpkin farm

HERE’S THE SCOOP:

  • Two young zebras escaped from an indoor zoo at a pumpkin patch in Illinois.
  • The zebras crossed a state highway several times and wandered through nearby farm fields.
  • Workers successfully corraled the escapees after about two hours.

Escapees from an Illinois pumpkin farm left drivers black and white and perplexed all over.

Two young zebras escaped from a pen inside an indoor zoo at a pumpkin patch in Pingree Grove. They crossed Route 47 several times and wandered through nearby farm fields.

Illinois State Police received a call since the ensuring chase was near Interstate 90. Other police agencies also joined the pursuit of the striped escapees.

Kane County Undersheriff Pat Gengler said police blocked area traffic several times, worried that cars would strike the zebras.

After about two hours, Goebbert’s Pumpkin Patch and Apple Orchard and zoo employees tracked the animals on all-terrain vehicles and captured both of them. The zebras were not injured during the pursuit.

“It was pretty exciting for a while,” farm employee Jacob Goebbert said.
