HERE’S THE SCOOP:
- Xiaomi has unveiled its Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition, a compact AR headset.
- The headset uses the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1, and features microOLED displays with advanced hand-tracking.
- The company hasn’t disclosed price or availability, as it’s still a concept device.
Chinese tech company Xiaomi has revealed its Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition, a lightweight and compact augmented reality headset that promises a seamless blending of the digital and physical worlds. The headset is equipped with microOLED displays with an ultra-high pixel density, which Xiaomi claims will be imperceptible to the naked eye. Additionally, it features advanced hand-tracking capabilities that allow users to manipulate digital objects using intuitive gestures.
One of the most significant selling points of the headset is its lack of physical tethering to a smartphone or other device, making it a truly portable AR solution. The headset weighs in at 126g (4.4 ounces) and is crafted from a combination of magnesium-titanium alloy and carbon fiber, materials that are both durable and lightweight. Xiaomi has also included a custom-made silicon-oxygen anode battery that further reduces the burden on users, though some users may still find the weight of the headset uncomfortable for extended periods of use.

In terms of the user experience, Xiaomi claims that the headset’s free-form, light-guiding prisms and electrochromic lenses will deliver high brightness and clarity, while minimizing brightness loss and eye strain. A concept video shows the headset being used to manipulate smart home devices and navigate digital content, though the headset’s full range of features and applications have yet to be revealed. Xiaomi has stated that it will work closely with developers to support the development of AR content, which is essential to the growth of this nascent industry.
