WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- An 11-year-old girl from New Zealand tried to bribe the prime minister into launching some research into dragons and telekinesis.
- A picture of the prime minister’s reply was posted on Reddit.
- The letter included the returned bribe money, as well as a handwritten postscript from NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, saying she would still look out for possible dragons.
Dragons have become quite popular recently, especially with HBO airing its Game of Thrones finale and the How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World movie making its premiere just a few months ago. One girl in New Zealand seems pretty serious about the study of dragons for real though.
The 11-year-old, only identified as Victoria, penned a letter to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, requesting that a dragon research program be launched. Aside from that, the letter included a request for studies on telekinesis and even a $5 New Zealand note to try and sweeten the deal.
The prime minister remained steadfast though and returned the money along with her reply.
“We were very interested to hear your suggestions about psychics and dragons, but unfortunately we are not currently doing any work in either of these areas!” Ardern also wished Victoria “all the very best in your quest for telekinesis, telepathy, and dragons.”
Jacinda ended the letter with a handwritten note, “P.S. I’ll still keep an eye out for those dragons. Do they wear suits??”
A Reddit user, saying his little sister tried to bribe the prime minister, posted an official photo of the letter on the social media platform sometime late last week.
The letter was inspired by Victoria’s dream to grow up and become a dragon trainer. According to the Reddit user, the Netflix series Stranger Things also prompted his little sister’s desire for the government to make her telekinetic, as one of the show’s lead characters, a young girl, has telepathic powers.
