An angler has caught a mysterious-looking sea creature off the coast of Alaska.
Sarah Vasser-Alford reeled in her catch and took a video of the “orange animal making rhythmic movements” with its long, curly and squirming tentacles. The clip was then posted online with viewers freaking out at the alien-looking creature with dozens of smaller tentacles branching out from the bigger ones.
When Sarah turns the sea creature over, a creepy-looking body with murky ‘blood vessels’ underneath was revealed.
Those who viewed the video compared the creature to something out of a horror movie scene. The footage was posted last month and has since gone viral, amassing over 1.2 million views.
The ‘alien-looking’ creature was found during a halibut-fishing expedition in August off Prince Of Wales Island in Alaska.
One commented that the marine animal looked like ‘an alien’ while another viewer suggested that it could be ‘live coral’.
The deep-sea creature was identified as a basket star, which belongs to an echinoderm group known as brittle stars, with a disk-shaped body and five flexible arms, The Mirror reported.
“Put it back in the water and let it be!” some concerned viewers commented.
“He shouldn’t be out of the water, he can’t breathe!” another viewer wrote.
Sarah explained: “I was out halibut fishing with my mom and some friends and when My mom reeled up her line the basket star was on the hook.
Basket stars are described to have highly branched arms that could help them move or glide easily along the seafloor.
They live in the deep sea and can grow up to three feet long.
