Authorities said on Wednesday that the murderers of three best friends who got killed while going on a night fishing trip in Florida have been caught.
According to Pol County Sheriff Grady Judd, the three suspects ━ Tony “TJ” Wiggins, 26, his brother Robert Wiggins, 21, and girlfriend Mary Whittemore, 27 ━ allegedly beat and fatally shot the three men on Friday night in Frostproof, Florida, located about 70 miles south of Orlando.
“I didn’t stutter. He has 230 charges in his arrest history. Fifteen convictions and two times to state prison at only 26,” Judd described TJ Wiggins, as reported by Tampa Bay’s Fox 13.
“He’s a thug, he’s a criminal. He’s pure evil in the flesh. He’s wild and he’s out of control,” Judd added.
Judd said that unintentionally, the assailants overheard one of the victims, Damion Tillman, 23, telling a clerk in a Dollar General that he and his other two friends, Keven Springfield, 30, and Brandon Rollins, 27, will be going on a catfishing trip at night.
The suspects followed the group to the lake where they attacked them, he said.
“You stole the engine out of my truck,” TJ Wiggins, allegedly shouted at Springfield, Judd added.
Wiggins’ group allegedly slew the three best friends, leaving them in a horrifying scene. They went to a nearby McDonald’s afterward and peacefully ordered for food, according to the sheriff.
TJ Wiggins has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, while Robert is faced with tampering of evidence and being an accessory after the fact which was also filed against Whittemore, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
The suspects will appear in court on Thursday.
