WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Staff at a UK animal rescue center was baffled when an exotic-looking bird was brought to their facility by motorists who found the bird at the side of a road.
- The bright orange bird was actually not an ‘exotic’ bird but was a regular seagull covered in curry powder, damaging his feathers and “preventing him from flying properly.”
- The seagull is not the first reported case of its kind. In 2016, the staff at the Vale Wildlife Hospital in Gloucestershire rescued a bright orange seagull which reportedly fell into a tub of chicken tikka masala.
A team of British animal rescuers was surprised to discover that the exotic-looking bright orange bird they rescued was just a seagull covered in curry powder.
Last week, Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in Haddenham, UK, shared photos of a colorful bird to its Facebook page. The teaching veterinary hospital known for rehabilitating injured animals with the objective of releasing them back into the wild, said that the ‘exotic’ bird was brought into the facility by motorists.
“This bright-orange herring gull was rescued by kind members of the public who spotted him at the side of the A41,” Tiggywinkles wrote. “When they called to say they had picked up an orange bird, we had no idea what to expect – and would never have guessed at this!”
The bird was actually not an ‘exotic’ bird but somehow gotten himself covered in “curry or turmeric,” damaging his feathers and “preventing him from flying properly.”
After Tiggywinkles staff bathed the pungent seagull they nicknamed Vinny, the curry was washed off and left the bird looking spotless.
“He is now looking much better and should be able to go for release very soon!” the vet hospital noted. “As we say, we never know what will come through our doors next!”
It turned out, Vinny is not the first reported case of his kind.
Workers at the Vale Wildlife Hospital in Gloucestershire, U.K., rescued a bright orange seagull in 2016. The bird reportedly fell into a tub of chicken tikka masala.
Authorities believed the bird was hungry and was scavenging in some bins outside a food factory, trying to pick out bits of meat from a pot when he was off-balance and plunged into the leftover sauce.
