Couple charged with capital murder after causing girl's death from dehydration
  • A Texas couple, Daniel and Ashley Schwarz, was arrested for the capital murder of an 8-year-old girl.
  • Jaylin Anne died of dehydration allegedly because the couple forced her to jump continuously on a trampoline in 100-degree heat.
  • The couple isn’t Jaylin’s biological parents and her biological mother was working to see her daughter when Jaylin died.

On Monday, a Texas couple was charged and arrested for the capital murder of the August death of an 8-year-old girl.

Daniel and Ashley Schwarz allegedly forced the child they had been raising, Jaylin Anne, to jump on a trampoline for an extended amount of time in over 100-degree heat.

On August 29, officers were called to the Schwarz’s home and Jaylin was found “deceased on scene.” An investigation was opened after that, said Odessa police.

The investigation revealed that the 8-year-old had been punished, not allowed breakfast, and forced to jump on the trampoline “without stopping.” She was not allowed any water because “she was not jumping.”

According to Accuweather.com, the peak temperature in Odessa on August 29 was 103 degrees. Police said the temperature of the trampoline was about 110 degrees and the ground temperature was measured to be about 150 degrees.

On Thursday, police obtained the final autopsy that stated Jaylin’s cause of death was dehydration. The child’s manner of death was ruled as a homicide.

The Schwarz couple aren’t Jaylin’s biological parents but her guardians. Alysha Anderton, Jaylin’s biological mother, wrote on social media that she had been working to access her daughter and Jaylin’s sister, also in the care of the Schwarz family, when Jaylin died.

Anderton wrote on Facebook that she was “only a few months away from being able to see them.” She is heartbroken that she was not able to tell her daughter how hard she was trying to be in her life and that she loved and wanted her.
