Mary Trump, President Donald Trump’s niece, showcased a harsh portrayal of the president in her new book entitled, “Too Much and Never Enough, How My Family Created The World’s Most Dangerous Man.”
Daughter to Fred Trump Jr., the president’s elder brother who died in 1981, Mary Trump has a doctorate in psychology.
In the book, Mary Trump detailed how the “worst effects” of Donald Trump’s pathologies were made clear by the slew of current events — the coronavirus pandemic, a looming economic depression, and deepening social divides. She added that his inefficiencies were less evident when the country faced no serious crisis.
“Donald’s penchant for division, and uncertainty about our country’s future have created a perfect storm of catastrophes that no one is less equipped than my uncle to manage,” she wrote.
The president’s brother, Robert, had tried to bar the book from being published. But last week, a New York state appellate judge lifted a ruling that briefly blocked its publication.
The book is scheduled to be released next week, but early copies had become available since Tuesday.
Robert Trump had argued in legal documents that Mary Trump had signed a non-disclosure agreement that barred her from publishing accounts involving the core family members without their approval.
The book’s publisher, Simon & Schuster, argued that it was not aware of any alleged agreement until a few weeks ago and was not a part of any deal. It added that 75,000 copies had already been sent to bookstores.
Mary Trump stated in the book that the president’s usual methods proved to be ineffective for the current challenges the country is facing.
“His ability to control unfavorable situations by lying, spinning, and obfuscating has diminished to the point of impotence in the midst of the tragedies we are currently facing,” she said.
Mary Trump wrote, “His egregious and arguably intentional mishandling of the current catastrophe has led to a level of pushback and scrutiny that he’s never experienced before.”
She added that this led to his “belligerence and need for petty revenge as he withholds vital funding, personal protective equipment, and ventilators that your tax dollars have paid for from states whose governors don’t kiss his ass sufficiently.”
The White House is yet to give a statement.
