Leather Re-Invented: Dog leashes made from apple skins [Video]

  • Dog leashes, collars, harnesses made from apple skins and organic polymer are now available.
  • The organic and durable leather-like pet accessories are handmade in Italy.
  • For every sale, the company plants a tree to combat deforestation.

A company called Project Blu has just launched its handmade, eco-friendly, organic pet collar line made out of apple skins.  It says that the accessories are stronger than leather and so it does keep man’s best friend on a leash.

On its product line are leashes, collars, harnesses and even poop bags that are vegan-friendly. Organic polymer is mixed with the apple skins to produce “an incredibly strong, waterproof material that is also kind to the planet.”

Project Blu’s mission is to remove pollution in the pet industry by offering sustainable, affordable, and durable products that do not compromise on quality.

The company manufactures its handmade products in Tuscany, Italy while it is based in Wales.  They are the recipient of the “Best Startup in Wales 2020”.

Geryn Evans, Project Blu’s founder said, “We pride ourselves in delivering high quality products while helping out the planet that we are lucky enough to live on.”

The alternative to leather pet accessories is the latest in the company’s more than 40 years distributing pet merchandise.  They have been known throughout Europe for their sustainable products.

Their products’ main features are: “leather” is made from organic apple skins grown in the Italian alps and polymer; PETA-approved, vegan comfy and 100% cruelty-free; waterproof and stain-resistant; handmade by Italian artisans; and lastly, a tree is planted for every sale made as part of the company’s partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects to fight deforestation.

And now for a limited period and as their worldwide launch, they are offering special early-bird (or early dog) prices through their Kickstarter campaign.  The pandemic has postponed its expansion in the US markets.

To ensure that their products are delivered on time, Project Blu’s products are already in the production line. But you won’t get them until January after the campaign ends.
