WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Former “Today” show anchor Matt Lauer is reportedly dating public relations executive Shamin Abas after photos showing the pair spending time together were posted.
- According to an InTouch source, Lauer and Abas’ friendship has just turned romantic recently.
- The source also said that the pair had known each other for more than a decade and that Abas is simply ecstatic to be with him.
Matt Lauer has seemingly moved on with his life with a new girlfriend who bears such resemblance to ex-wife Annette Roque.
In photos published exclusively by Radar Online, the 62-year-old former “Today” show anchor was spotted numerous times riding a bike and enjoying the outdoors with rumored new girlfriend Shamin Abas over the holidays in New Zealand, where he owns a compound. The ex-NBC star’s $9.2M New Zealand home was reportedly at risk at the time of his public scandal.
According to InTouch, which was the first to report that the pair’s longtime friendship has recently turned romantic, Lauer has known Abas, 50, a public relations executive, for at least 15 years.
“Obviously one thing led to another, and they’re a full-fledged item now,” said a source to the outlet. Abas “knows who he is” and is “thrilled she’s with him”. “She doesn’t seem to have a care in the world,” added the source.
The source also said that Abas was one of just a few longtime friends who didn’t turn their back on him after his sex scandal that ended his career at NBC.
Due to Abas looking so much like the ex-newsman’s former wife, some people thought it was Annette when Abas was seen boarding a plane with Lauer as they headed to New Zealand.
Lauer and his ex-wife finalized their divorce in September 2019, nearly two years since Roque filed for divorce in 2017. The former couple share children Jack, 18, Romy, 16, and Thijs, 13.
