Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, is currently facing divorce from husband Todd Palin after 31 years of marriage.

Todd Palin filed the divorce papers on Friday in the Superior Court in Anchorage, Alaska. He stated that his marriage to Sarah Palin saw an “incompatibility of temperament… such that they find it impossible to continue to live together as husband and wife.” He also sought custody for their youngest child, who is currently 11.

The court documents listed only the pair’s initials, with Todd Mitchell Palin listed as TMP and Sarah Louise Palin listed as SLP.

Craig Medred a blogger from Alaska, first reported on the divorce filing.

Both parties have not yet provided any statements.

Palin served as Alaska governor from 2006 to 2009. She was put into the national spotlight in 2008 when the late Sen. John McCain chose her as his running mate in the presidential race, which he eventually lost to Barack Obama.

Her family also faced the media’s attention, which has since brought to light some unflattering information. Her daughter, Bristol Palin, was then 17 years old and pregnant. Bristol’s teenage pregnancy got her featured on MTV’s “Teen Mom OG” last year, but she left the show in April, saying, “It took away my peace.”

Palin’s oldest child, 30-year-old Track Palin, was arrested in 2018 on domestic violence charges, to which he pleaded not guilty. The case is still ongoing. He was charged earlier with criminal trespassing in a dwelling after being accused of breaking into his parents’ home and assaulting Todd Palin, to which he pleaded guilty.

After serving as governor, Sarah Palin has since devoted her time to book releases and cable news appearances. In 2015, she expressed “serious interest” in running for president but ultimately decided not to.
